Quick Poll
Written by Dan McGrain September 22nd, 2009Are you more impressed with the Ravens offense or more worried about the Ravens defense through their first two games?
The numbers…
Ravens Offense: 2nd in total points, 3rd in total yards, 13th in pass yards, 4th in rush yards, 1st in first downs, 3rd in time of possession
Ravens Defense: 23rd in total points, 17th in total yards, 2th in pass yards, 1st in rush yards, 4th in first downs
Also worth noting… All of the Ravens points this season have been scored by the offense – no defensive TDs to pad that stat so far!

Neither, the offense is as expected with the addition of Washington, another year under the belts of the young linemen, now going on their second year working together with the addition of Burk, it stabilizes them. Add to that Flacco now officially a Pro quarterback and a health Heap all = the offense we see, though they have yet to face a real tough defense, SD was not near full strength.
Anyone who thought Fabian Washington would be better than an aging McAllister, is well, nuts. Washington has no instincts.Foxworth has the skills, but lacks the intelligence to handle the ever changing schemes. Currently he is over thinking, which is hurting his game. That may change as the season unfolds, it better.
No depth in the secondary, Frank Penalty Walker is just terrible, the jury is still out on Carr and Webb, personally, I’m not high on either……. Read More
The defensive line is aging every week….

You’ve got to be concerned about the Ravens’ defense at this point. Sure, it is only two games in, but getting torched for 436 yards in the air is a problem.
The pass defense has been slowly slipping over the last few seasons and has been exposed severely, several times during that period. It’s a problem.
Luckily, the offense is now able to keep the defense off the field for longer periods of time (ask the Colts defense how important that is!) which will hopefully allow the defense to regroup during the game.

So far they are 2and0. I’m not worried about either one

Mike, yes they are 2-0 and wins are all the matter. However, this team has no depth on defense, none on the offensive line and less than none, if that is possible, at receiver. Yes they are off to a good start and snuck out of SD with a key win. However, they have yet to get into the meat of the schedule and I sure hope they can get their act together on defense while playing the Browns of the NFL world.
If not, we will see many high scoring games as we did in 96, but they did not all translate into wins.

It’s time to let the Defense go just a bit… yes they are slipping from what we’ve all become accustomed to… the smothering impervious wall. We also used to rely on them to account for the Offense’s lack of point production. With the offense stepping up the way a balanced team should be the defense can afford a little slowing down. Not too much mind you. I think with the ability to score TD’s instead of only FG’s and the defense still being one of the top 4 no matter how you slice it… barring mass injuries, the Raven’s will do just fine.
Didn’t seem to affect the power rankings at all that’s for sure.
